River Sol

Set above the Deschutes River among towering ponderosa pines, River Sol is a remarkable expression of thoughtful design and environmental stewardship. As a fully Living Certified home under the International Living Future Institute’s Living Building Challenge, the residence represents an extraordinary commitment to regenerative building practices and a healthier relationship with the natural world.

Achieving this distinction required exceptional collaboration and a rigorous approach to every material and finish. Meeting the Living Building Challenge’s Red List requirements demanded extensive research, product transparency, and close coordination with manufacturers and artisans. Innovative water and energy systems further reflect the complexity and ambition of this undertaking.

Guided by biophilic design principles, our interior approach was deeply rooted in the surrounding landscape. The movement of the river, the textures of the forest, and the changing natural light informed every layer of the design. A basalt-wrapped fireplace anchors the living space, while leaf-patterned kitchen tile, river-inspired mosaics, and reclaimed wood create a tangible connection to nature. Warm autumnal tones and thoughtfully curated furnishings bring comfort and character throughout.

River Sol is a testament to what is possible when design, craftsmanship, and environmental responsibility are considered as one. The result is a deeply personal retreat where the beauty of the natural world is reflected in every detail, demonstrating that exceptional design and uncompromising sustainability can exist in harmony.
